Prof. Dr. Mustafa Ünal is a distinguished ophthalmologist with over 25 years of experience in eye care and surgery. Born in 1974 in Sivas Gürün, he graduated from Istanbul University Cerrahpaşa Faculty of Medicine in 1998 and specialized in ophthalmology in 2002. Throughout his career, he has dedicated himself to providing advanced treatments for various eye conditions, including cataract surgery, smart lens applications, corneal transplantation, glaucoma treatment, and laser eye surgeries.
Following his specialization, Prof. Dr. Mustafa Ünal gained extensive experience at Florence Nightingale Hospital and later served in the Kayseri Military Hospital. In 2005, he joined Akdeniz University Faculty of Medicine as a faculty member, where he became an associate professor in 2007 and a full professor in 2013. His international expertise was further enriched through training at the Ocular Microsurgery Institute in Barcelona, Spain. From 2015 to 2020, he served as the rector of Akdeniz University, contributing significantly to medical education and research.
As a respected member of the Turkish Ophthalmological Association and the European Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons (ESCRS), Prof. Dr. Mustafa Ünal has authored numerous scientific publications. Fluent in English and Turkish, he continues to provide exceptional eye care services at Nova Eye Clinic, offering patients state-of-the-art treatments tailored to their needs. Prof. Dr. Betül Ünal graduated from Istanbul University Cerrahpaşa Faculty of Medicine in 2004 and successfully passed the TUS exam to specialize in pathology. She began her residency at Akdeniz University Faculty of Medicine, Pathology Department, and later completed her mandatory service at Antalya Training and Research Hospital. In 2013, she returned to Akdeniz University Faculty of Medicine to continue her academic career. She was promoted to Assistant Professor in 2016, Associate Professor in 2017, and achieved the title of Professor in 2023.
Throughout her academic career, Prof. Dr. Betül Ünal has specialized in dermatopathology for over a decade, actively engaging in scientific research and resident training. In 2017, she was the only associate professor at Akdeniz University to receive a perfect (100) academic incentive score. She has participated in numerous projects, including TÜBİTAK-funded research, both as a principal investigator and researcher. Additionally, she has served as a thesis advisor, expert witness, and jury member for various scientific evaluations and examinations.
Prof. Dr. Betül Ünal is an active member of several professional organizations, including the Turkish Ministry of Health TUKMOS Dermatopathology Working Group and the European Society of Pathology. She has also successfully completed the Ministry of Health’s training programs in mesotherapy and ozone therapy in 2021. Fluent in English, she continues to contribute to the field of pathology through her research and clinical practice.
