LASIK

What is LASIK?

LASIK (Laser-Assisted In Situ Keratomileusis) is one of the most well-known and widely performed laser eye surgeries used to correct refractive errors such as myopia (nearsightedness), hyperopia (farsightedness), and astigmatism. At Nova Eye Clinic, we perform LASIK using the FemtoLASIK technique, which is a more advanced and bladeless version of traditional LASIK, offering enhanced precision and safety.

How Does LASIK Work?

LASIK reshapes the cornea, the transparent front part of the eye, so that light is properly focused onto the retina. In the FemtoLASIK technique, a femtosecond laser creates a thin flap in the cornea, which is then lifted so the underlying corneal tissue can be reshaped with an excimer laser. The flap is then repositioned, where it naturally adheres without the need for stitches.

A detailed pre-operative evaluation by Prof. Dr. Mustafa Ünal will determine your suitability for the procedure.

The Procedure

LASIK is performed as an outpatient procedure and typically takes 10–15 minutes per eye. The steps include:

  1. Preparation: Numbing eye drops are applied and the eyelids are held open.

  2. Flap Creation: A femtosecond laser creates a thin corneal flap.

  3. Reshaping: The excimer laser reshapes the underlying corneal tissue.

  4. Flap Repositioning: The flap is gently repositioned without the need for stitches.

Patients usually go home shortly after the procedure and begin to notice improved vision within a few hours.

Recovery and Results

  • Most patients achieve clear vision within 24–48 hours.

  • Some may experience temporary dryness, light sensitivity, or mild discomfort.

  • Vision continues to stabilize over the following weeks.

  • Follow-up appointments ensure proper healing and optimal results.
